In September 2007 Tudhoe Grange School was granted the full International School Award. This is a reflection of the growing links which the School has with other schools around the world and the work done in School to help young people to learn about other countries and cultures. This gives our students a real recognition of their place in the world.
Tudhoe has formed partner schools in Germany Krupp Gymnasium in Duisburg), Estonia (Oskar Lutts Gymnasium in Palamuse) , USA and South Breeze School in Dakar, Bangladesh. The TGS Band enjoyed a successful exchange with students from Pingree School near Boston, USA; more than 80 Year 8 students have been writing and emailing to our partner schools in Germany and Estonia and joint project work is being done during this year on such themes as history, ethics, our school and bullying. The new link with Bangladesh offers an insight into a very different culture and joint work will again be starting this year.
The Tudhoe curriculum also reflects a global theme with studies of other cultures in all subjects, e.g. their history, beliefs, art, literature and music.
In addition the School offers all students the chance to learn about other countries and cultures through activities such as the European Languages Day when students are greeted by staff in many languages, do games and quizzes and learn about the importance of languages. Many students have also participated in learning about African music and culture. Tudhoe students have also raised thousands of pounds towards international charities, for example in helping to sponsor an orphanage in Kenya, and also after learning about such projects as Water Aid. |
